After living a remarkable 98-year life filled with joy and love, our beloved mother peacefully departed from this world, surrounded by her cherished family. Gwyneth, survived by her four daughters, Susan Chapman (Jerry), Sheelagh Sweitzer (John), Pamela O’Brien (Jack Bjork), and Mary Gillis (David Berson), along with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, leaves behind a vast network of extended family members. However, her son Graham had preceded her in death in 1973. Gwyneth was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec but relocated to Vancouver in 1949 alongside her husband, Dr. John Gillis. As a devoted mother and homemaker, she emanated an infectious sense of humor and delighted in music, dance, storytelling, and animals. Her culinary skills were exemplary, and her ability to create enchanting environments was second to none. Gwyneth generously dedicated her time to various charitable organizations and served as a valuable member of St. Faith’s Anglican parish’s altar guild. Moreover, her long-lasting membership of over 45 years in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority demonstrated her commitment to sisterhood. Following the passing of her husband, Dr. Gillis, Gwyneth remarried George Durose in 1977, only to endure his loss in 1984. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at Sunrise Residence for their unwavering support provided to our mother throughout the past five years.
