Helen Jean Orchard (née Patterson) peacefully passed away at the age of 95 on August 13, 2023, in Bobier Villa. Surrounded by her family, she began her eternal life in Heaven. She was the beloved wife of the late James Duncan Orchard, who passed away in 2014. Helen was a loving mother to Ian Duncan Orchard and his wife Fides, and a wonderful grandmother to Dean, Laura, and Chelsey Orchard. She was also a dear sister to Catherine Ford and was survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence and Jeanetta Patterson, her sister Marion Page, and her brothers-in-law Albert Ford and Donald Page. Margaret and William Bell were her faithful friends.

Born in 1928 in Cowal, Ontario, Helen had a natural talent for music and was a self-taught musician. Her passion for music sparked a lifelong journey in the field. She initially pursued a career in teaching music in various schools across West Elgin. In 1953, Helen married Jim Orchard from Southwold, which led them to move to St. Thomas, Ontario, until the mid-1960s. Eventually, they settled in the Peterborough area, where Helen continued to teach music for the Northumberland-Durham Catholic School Board. She later became a Teachers Consultant for the Peterborough County Board of Education. After retiring from teaching, Helen and Jim returned to the Dutton area where they successfully operated a business together for many years.

A visitation was held on August 18, 2023, at Arn Funeral Home in Dutton, Ontario. An Eastern Star Service, Adah Chapter 276, took place at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at Knox-St. Andrews Presbyterian Church the next day. Helen was laid to rest at the Shedden Cemetery, with fellowship enjoyed at Knox Church in Dutton after the interment. Attendees were encouraged to wear Scottish ceremonial dress attire. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requested donations to any of the benevolent Order of the Eastern Star charities and Bobier Villa.
