Hendrikus LOOMAN

Henk Geradus Looman, known affectionately as “Henk,” was born on April 29, 1927, in Didam, The Netherlands. He grew up on a farm, one of 11 siblings, and endured the hardships of World War II. In 1954, Henk immigrated to Saskatoon, Canada. The following year, his future wife Marie joined him, and they exchanged vows at St. Mary’s Church. Together, they embraced their new home country of Canada. Henk dedicated his working years to the Western Stockyards and the Hog Commission, retiring in 1989. Over the years, he developed a passion for camping, hockey, crib, fishing, and golf. Always the handyman, Henk often found joy in fixing things around the yard and house. Upon retirement, he and Marie embarked on yearly three-month trips to Arizona in their motorhome. Golf became a serious pastime for Henk, playing five days a week until the impressive age of 92. Additionally, he and Marie devoted considerable time to volunteering at their church. Henk leaves behind a loving wife of 68 years, Marie, as well as their children Doreen (Myron) Swityk, Arlene (Pat) Clavelle, Andrew (Kim), and Michael (Cindy). He is also fondly remembered by his 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings in The Netherlands, Henk’s family expresses deep gratitude for the care he received at Sherbrooke Community Centre and Trinity Manor. A Vigil of Prayer will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Saskatoon on Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Kevin McGee on Friday, November 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the same church. Memories and condolences can be shared at http://www.westwoodfuneralchapel.com.
