Inger Olsen, formerly known as Inger Aakjær, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the remarkable age of 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jørgen Olsen, whom she adored. Inger is survived by her daughter Marianne (Robert), along with her two granddaughters, Jennifer (Peder) residing in Denmark and Heather (Geoff) in Texas. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Jakob, Drew, Ellie, Ryan, Celia, Mia, and Josie. In addition to her immediate family, Inger will forever be cherished by her relatives in Denmark.

Born and raised in Bornholm, Denmark, Inger made the life-altering decision to immigrate to Canada in 1949 alongside her loving husband, Jørgen. In Calgary, she worked diligently at the Calgary Petroleum Club for an extended period before eventually retiring. Inger and Jørgen shared a profound love for nature and often found joy in hiking and picnicking in the mountains. They explored numerous corners of the globe together, creating countless beautiful memories. In their leisure time, they would relish a delightful cup of coffee in the sanctuary of their own backyard. Inger, a Danish native, was exceptionally fond of Canada and her beloved family. Known for her exceptional skills in embroidery and knitting, she was also an amazing cook who delighted in entertaining others.

A Funeral Service honoring Inger Olsen will be conducted at Sharon Danish Lutheran Church (210 10 Ave NE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the church, allowing family and friends to come together to celebrate her remarkable life. Inger’s legacy will endure through the creation of a dedicated tree planted in her memory at the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Heritage, 1708 – 16th Avenue NW, Calgary, AB, T2M 0L7.
