James Daniel Collins (Jimmy)

James Daniel Collins, affectionately known as Jimmy, peacefully passed away in the hospital on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the age of 62. Jimmy, born on October 20, 1960, grew up in London, Ontario, and pursued a Fine Arts degree at Western University. He eventually settled in Toronto where he met his future husband, Ted Merrick. Jimmy and Ted exchanged vows on March 26, 2004, and created a loving home together. They built successful careers in Toronto and cherished their time at their second residences in Walters Falls and later Bayfield. Eventually, they retired to a charming stone cottage in Prescott, Ontario.

Throughout his life, Jimmy’s love for Ted was unwavering, as he cared for and showered him with affectionate nicknames. This fervent devotion extended to his loved ones, displaying empathy, support, and dedication to both family and friends. Jimmy’s exceptional kindness and generosity were often showcased through his handmade gifts and his talent for hosting exquisite gatherings. Additionally, he was an incredible cook, renowned for his legendary turkey dinners. A true artist at heart, Jimmy possessed an exceptional sense of design and artistry, effortlessly applying his talents to various projects. His strong communication and organizational skills allowed him to excel in designing and building countless creations. His passion for aesthetics led him to appreciate fine things, from the pursuit of shopping treasures to his delightful obsession with silverware and chandeliers. His appreciation for beauty was evident in his work ventures, such as Winter Stations, and his breathtaking paintings. Possessing intelligence, knowledge, and remarkable good looks, Jimmy’s sharp, often edgy sense of humor remained intact throughout his life. While Jimmy has now found eternal peace, his absence will be deeply felt by many.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Elsie Collins, and his sister Peggy, who was married to Michael Blewett. He is survived by his loving husband, Ted Merrick, and his siblings Patrick (Robin Graham), Kathryn, David (Cindy), Claire (Ian Robertson), and Diane Shaw, as well as his brother-in-law Lorne Merrick.

A cremation service was held in Prescott, honoring Jimmy’s wishes. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to a charity of your choosing.
