Jennie Teresa Nowak was born in Galt, Ontario on June 16, 1928 and passed away on July 27, 2023, at the age of 96, in Brantford, Ontario. She was the beloved daughter of Vincent and Honora. Unfortunately, Jennie’s mother passed away when she was just 18 months old. Her father remarried Casimira and they had five children together. Jennie played an important role in the household, taking care of her siblings Mary, Edwin, Loretta, Matthew, and John from a young age. Due to financial constraints, she had to leave school after completing Grade 7 and started working to support her family. Throughout her life, Jennie was deeply involved in the food and textile industries.

In 1952, Jennie met Zygmunt, whom she married and settled down with in Brantford. Initially, she carried her new surname on a card until she memorized it. Together, they cherished 63 years of marriage and experienced the ups and downs of life. They were blessed with three children, John, Michelle, and Barb. One of their fond memories was spending many Saturdays at the Polish Hall Albion Street, where Jennie would cook in the mornings alongside Mrs. Baka and then dance elegantly with Ziggy throughout the night. Later on, she even managed the catering and banquet facilities at the hall. Jennie was known not only for her exceptional culinary skills but also for going the extra mile to make people’s dreams come true. Cooking was her way of expressing love, and family meant everything to her. Jennie leaves behind her children, grandchildren Jody and Justin, Andrew, David, Ari, and Eden, seven great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Her kind-hearted gesture of “Have something to eat” will be remembered by each and every one of them for years to come.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the healthcare teams, neighbors, and friends who provided support and care for Jennie. Visitation will be held at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME”, 96 West St., on Monday, July 31, 2023, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 1, at 11am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 235 Brant Ave. Jennie will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jennie’s memory can be made to The St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre or St. Joseph’s Church.
