Joan DOWLING

Joan Dowling, a beloved resident of North Vancouver, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, at the age of 91 after a short stay in hospice. She was born on January 30, 1932, in Glasgow, Scotland. Sadly, Joan was predeceased by her four siblings, her loving husband of 56 years, Richard (Dick), in 2013, and her daughter, Joan, in 2019. However, she is survived by her son, Mark, his wife Davinder, and her adored grandchildren Shandly and Aidan.

Joan spent her early years in Glasgow, where she was born and raised. In 1953, she embarked on an exciting new journey with her fiance, Richard, to start a new life in New Zealand. After a few years together, they decided to immigrate to Vancouver in 1957. Eventually, they settled in North Vancouver, where they built their forever home in 1964. Throughout her life, Joan had a deep affection for her family, loved exploring new places through travel, found joy in gardening, and cherished everything North Vancouver had to offer.

An unwaveringly devout Catholic, Joan dedicated much of her time following Richard’s passing to actively participating in her church community and volunteering. Her faith remained a constant pillar in her life, providing her with solace and purpose. Joan will be deeply missed by her family and friends, as they bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose presence brightened their lives.

The funeral services to celebrate Joan’s life will be held on November 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St Stephens Parish, located at 1360 East 24th St. in North Vancouver. Following the service, a reception will take place at Seymour Golf Club. May her soul rest in eternal peace as her loved ones fondly remember her legacy.
