Joan Mary Wright

March 20, 1939

October 19, 2023

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Joan Mary Wright (Grant), a beloved mother, nana, great-grandma, and friend. Joan peacefully left this world on October 19, 2023, at the age of 84, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie. Her legacy of love will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.

Joan is survived by her four children: Jennifer Clayton (Wright) and son-in-law Brad, Sandra Wright, Eric Wright, and Carole Wright, and son-in-law Daryl. She was predeceased by her loving husband William (Bill) Wright. Her absence will be deeply felt by her six grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life: Grant, Julia (Danny), Ben, Siobhan, Holden, Alexandra, and her great-granddaughter Aria. Joan also leaves behind her brother John Grant, her nephew Chad, and her niece Kim.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, to John Marshall Grant and Alice Gertrude Grant (Holden), Joan was always known as a gentle, hardworking woman. Her company brought kindness, joy, and a helpful hand to all those around her. While still a teenager, she moved to Toronto with her family and worked as a law office clerk. Joan married Bill and eventually settled in Barrie in 1970, where she managed a bustling household with four children and several cherished pets. She retired at the age of 72 after a fulfilling tenure at work.

Joan was a creative and intelligent woman who found delight in cooking, sewing, sketching, films, fashion, and, undoubtedly, a good cup of coffee. Her warm presence will forever bring solace to those grieving her loss. In memory of Joan, the family kindly requests donations to be made to The Busby Centre in Barrie, as Joan was a passionate advocate for those in need.

May Joan rest in eternal peace, knowing how deeply and profoundly she was loved. She faced numerous challenges with unwavering courage and strength. May her spirit forever dance, laugh, and find serenity. A Memorial Service to honor Joan’s life will be held at a later date.
