Joan O’Brien

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Joan O’Brien, our beloved mother, on October 30, 2023. Joan was born in Saint John in 1932 to her parents George “Boey” and Anne (nee McDevitt) Lawlor.

Joan is survived by her four children: Patrick (Susan), Michael (Pamela), Joan (Tony), and Joe (Lorna). She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, her sister Shirley Lawlor, and daughter-in-law Teresa O’Brien. Additionally, she is mourned by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband Fred O’Brien, son John O’Brien, and grandchildren Elizabeth Boyce and Emma Cote. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: George (Irene Malone), Gert (George LeBlanc), Bill (Barb Gorman), and Joe (Sharon McManus). Other family members who have passed away include in-laws Frank and Frances O’Brien, Marion and Arie Blok, Greg and Carol O’Brien, great nephew Josh LeBlanc, and many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We will deeply miss our mother, Joan. May she rest in peace, our dear Mama. We love her immensely and will always cherish her memory. Until we are reunited again.

The visitation for Joan will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home (506) 634-1701, located at 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John NB. A Mass of Christian Burial in her honor will take place on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 12pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish (360 Dufferin Row, Saint John NB). Following the mass, Joan will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
