Joanne May Widdis, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023, at Kingston General Hospital, surrounded by her daughters. Joanne, formerly known as Joanne Hall, was a beloved resident of Belleville. She was the cherished wife of John Widdis, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years before his passing in April 2022. Joanne was a loving mother to her children, John and Jodi, and a cherished Nana to her grandchildren, Melina, Breana, and Arielle. She was the only child of Henry and Hilda Hall, nee Mallory. Joanne began her career at Queen’s University in the registrar’s office after graduating from business college. Later, she worked at Sears in the cash office and, after retirement, at Wendy’s, where she was highly regarded by her colleagues. However, her most rewarding role came when her granddaughters were born, as she became their full-time caregiver. Joanne’s dedication and love in shaping her granddaughters’ lives are immeasurable, and they are forever grateful to her.

Joanne was renowned for her quick wit, sense of humor, and unwavering love for her family. Afternoons spent at Nana and Papa’s house, baking cookies, engaging in crafts, learning to knit, and making joyful memories, hold a special place in the hearts of her loved ones. Her love knew no boundaries, and to be loved by Joanne meant experiencing her fierce and unconditional affection. Her passing has left an indescribable void in the lives of those who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt. However, her memory will endure, as she has been reunited with her dearly missed husband and her departed parents.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Robert J. Reid funeral home – “The Chapel on the corner,” located at 309 Johnson Street, Kingston (at Barrie St.), on Friday, November 3rd, between 1-2pm. A celebration of Joanne’s life will follow in the chapel at 2pm. Should anyone wish to make a charitable donation in Joanne’s memory, The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be a fitting choice.
