Johann (Christian) Schaub, age 73, passed away on October 12, 2023, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Katharina, his children Dominic, Emmanuel, and Andreas (Caroline), his grandchildren Leo, Nina, and Louie, and his siblings Peter and Gertrude. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his mother Margrit and father Paul.
Christian was born and raised in Zürich, Switzerland, where his passion for gardening blossomed. As a young adult, he worked at an architectural firm before pursuing a career in medicine at the University of Zürich. In the early 1980s, he and his wife Katharina immigrated to Winnipeg, following in the footsteps of his siblings Peter and Gertrude. After completing his residency in psychiatry, Christian dedicated his professional life to helping others, splitting his time between a private psychiatric practice and the Manitoba Youth Centre, where he provided support to countless patients during their most challenging times.
Devoted to leading a healthy lifestyle, Christian emphasized the importance of physical exercise. Whether it was running, cycling, skiing, or swimming, he made sure to incorporate physical activity into his daily routine. His love for fresh produce led him to cultivate an extensive vegetable garden during the summer months. His innate talent for gardening ensured that the indoors were adorned with an abundance of greenery and life. In 2016, Christian retired to Quebec and settled near Gatineau Park, where he found solace in the natural beauty of the area.
Christian Schaub’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish his memory. His legacy as a compassionate doctor and avid lover of nature will continue to inspire and touch the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
