John Austin Meendering, known affectionately as Oz, passed away peacefully at the age of 65 in his home on Saturday, July 29th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Beryl Meendering. Throughout his life, Austin embodied versatility, engaging in various professions such as a radio announcer, drummer, truck driver, and even owning his own upholstery business. Though not without flaws, he mirrored his father’s kind and gentle nature and possessed an immense capacity for compassion. Austin’s benevolent spirit extended to all those who crossed his path, whether it be lending a helping hand in constructing his parents’ cottage or assisting neighbors with their endeavors. Beloved by his adoring daughter Sarah, as well as his sisters Jennifer Briggs, Jill Meendering-Smith, Laurel Putnam, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, his presence will be sorely missed. In adherence to Austin’s preferences, a funeral will not be held, and he has been cremated. To honor his generous heart, we kindly request that acts of kindness be performed in his memory.

He further explored diverse avenues as a truck driver and eventually established his own upholstery business. Imperfections may have existed within him, however, much like his father, Austin radiated kindness and gentleness, showcasing a remarkable generosity of spirit. This remarkable attribute manifested in numerous acts of assistance, such as aiding in the creation of his parents’ cherished cottage or offering support to his neighbors with their own undertakings. His admirable qualities were cherished not only by his devoted daughter, Sarah, but also by his siblings Jennifer Briggs, Jill Meendering-Smith, and Laurel Putnam, along with an extensive network of nieces and nephews. In accordance with Austin’s expressed desires, no funeral will be held, and his remains have been cremated. To pay tribute to his profound compassion, we humbly ask that acts of kindness be performed in his name.
