John Emmerson
John Tozer Emmerson, a beloved husband, father, grampy, uncle, and friend, has left behind a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. Born in Dorchester, N.B., John, the son of the late Senator Henry R. Emmerson and Faulein Emmerson (nee Price), peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at The Moncton Hospital at the age of 97. John was the youngest of his 14 siblings. He had a deep connection to his roots in Dorchester and cherished the memories of his early years on the shores of the Bay of Fundy. His stories of adventures, family dinners, and biking filled him with pride.
Throughout his professional career, John had a successful journey. He started as a Manufacturer’s Agent for Northern Electric and Marlite Inc. before venturing into entrepreneurship by establishing his own business, Emmersales Ltd. His work took him across the three Maritime provinces, where he always found open invitations for a meal, a cup of tea, or accommodation from colleagues and family members. After retiring at the age of 92, John joined the team at Walmart, where he greeted thousands of customers for over 20 years. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Moncton, actively serving on the Deacon’s Board and Board of Trustees. Reading, solving word search puzzles, and keeping up with Canadian and US politics were among John’s favorite pastimes outside of work. However, it was his unwavering dedication to his family that truly defined him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
John was a wise man who always provided kind words of advice, comforting smiles, and cheerful songs. His unconditional love for his children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with them. From sharing stories to attentively listening to others’ tales, John’s interest in people’s lives, whether close family or strangers, was visibly evident. Through his kindness, generosity, and enduring friendships, John touched the lives of countless individuals and leaves behind a legacy of love that will be treasured for generations.
John is survived by his wife of 72 years, Chrystal Emmerson (nee Smith), his children Catherine Emmerson, Henry Emmerson (Barbara Miller), and Marilyn McCarthy (Rob), as well as his adored granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsay McCarthy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues, and friends. The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Moncton Hospital, as well as Dr. Leonard, Dr. Allanach, Janelle Doucet, and the healthcare partners from Moncton’s Extramural office for their exceptional care and support throughout the years. Special recognition is given to Kelly Ogilvy and Dow Home Care for their consistent, professional, and compassionate care.
A Service to Celebrate and Honour John’s life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or First Baptist Church, Moncton.
