FARRELL, John Daniel

Peacefully on Tuesday October 31, 2023 at the age of 92 years. Loving husband of Joan Foran and cherished father of Patrick Farrell (Elsbeth), Mike Farrell (Gail), Dan Farrell and the late Beth Farrell. Grandfather of Eirinn, Brody and Quinn Farrell, Mark Farrell. Great-grandfather of Taylor and Brianna Farrell.

Son of the late Mae and William Farrell and predeceased by siblings Alec, Frank, Mary and Peggy.

John’s first years were spent on a farm near Antigonish, Nova Scotia where he acquired many practical skills. He was a man of many talents. His pride and joy was the cottage he built on Lac Simon where he spent every possible moment. John was a lover of gadgets, electronics, fixing things, music, politics but above all, spending time with the family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. John had a successful and flourishing career with the Royal Bank, the last ten years of which were spent working in the International sector allowing him to visit many countries, until his retirement in 1986 while residing in Miami. He was fortunate to spend many long years of retirement dividing his time between the cottage and his winter residence in Florida with Ottawa as his home base. John developed many new friendships over the years in Florida and enjoyed routine “happy hours”. As a longstanding board of director’s member, much of his time was spent overseeing the finances of the mobile home community. John’s last few days were spent at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Our sincere thanks to the caring staff for making his final days comfortable.

Family and friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home-Kanata Chapel, 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata on Friday November 10, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of John’s Life in the Chapel at 11 a.m. For those wishing, In Memoriam donations may be made to the Ottawa food Bank or a charity of your choice.
