John TORELL

John Robert Torell passed away on July 25, 2023, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 73 following a long battle with early onset Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on January 3, 1950, in Regina, SK, to Dave and Mary Torell and grew up in Winnipeg, MB alongside his sister, Karen. John graduated from Red River College with a marketing diploma and subsequently relocated to Calgary. On May 20, 1977, he married Marilyn and they were blessed with two children named Kirstin and Cameron. Throughout his career, John was widely known as the “watch salesman,” with over three decades dedicated to this profession. Even in his declining health, he continued to contribute to Level 2 family, who warmly embraced him as part of their team. In his spare time, John adored music, supported the Roughriders, enjoyed camping, and cherished moments spent with loved ones. Grandfatherhood brought him immense joy, as he relished playing and witnessing the growth of his grandchildren. Surviving John is his wife, Marilyn; sister, Karen (Gerry) Corrie; children, Kirstin (Graham) Walker and Cameron (Brooke) Torell; as well as grandchildren, Kara, Leah, Nixon, and Maddox. A Celebration of John’s Life is set to take place on August 16, 2023, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Calgary Winter Club. In memory of John, contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Parkinson Association of Alberta are welcome.

Upon completing his marketing diploma at Red River College, he made the move to Calgary, where he built a fulfilling life. On May 20, 1977, John married Marilyn, and together they welcomed two children named Kirstin and Cameron. Renowned as the “watch salesman,” he dedicated over 30 years to a successful career in sales. Even as his physical health deteriorated, John found solace with the Level 2 family, who warmly embraced him and made him feel essential to the team. Music, supporting the Roughriders, camping, and quality time with loved ones brought him immense happiness. Above all, being a grandfather was a treasured role in John’s life, as he relished every moment spent with his grandchildren. John leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; sister, Karen (Gerry) Corrie; children, Kirstin (Graham) Walker and Cameron (Brooke) Torell; and grandchildren, Kara, Leah, Nixon, and Maddox. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on August 16, 2023, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Calgary Winter Club. The family kindly requests donations in John’s memory to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Parkinson Association of Alberta.

Known as the “watch salesman,” John dedicated more than three decades to his successful sales career. Despite his physical limitations, he continued to contribute to the Level 2 family, who wholeheartedly embraced him. Music, his unwavering support for the Roughriders, camping adventures, and treasured moments with friends and family brought him immense joy. Of all his roles in life, being a grandfather was the one he cherished the most, relishing in the growth of his beloved grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sister, Karen (Gerry) Corrie; children, Kirstin (Graham) Walker and Cameron (Brooke) Torell; and grandchildren, Kara, Leah, Nixon, and Maddox. To honor John’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on August 16, 2023, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Calgary Winter Club. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Parkinson Association of Alberta.
