Joseph Andrew Kitt, 88, passed away peacefully on October 23. He was deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved wife of 63 years, Katherine, who had passed away on August 23, 2020. They will now rest together in eternal peace. Joseph will be forever cherished and remembered by his sons, Darrell and Colin, as well as his daughter-in-law, Gail, and grandson, Zac. He was also deeply loved by his siblings and their families, including George (Rose), Maryanne (Bob) Gray, and Pat Desjardins, as well as his Aunt Nettie Sliwkanich.

Joseph had a special bond with the Babichuks on his wife’s side of the family, and they will always hold a place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter, and his mother, Annie, as well as his sisters and their husbands: Daisy (William) Panych, Jenny (Bill) Hodge, Sylvia West, and brother-in-law Paul Desjardins. He also mourned the loss of his nephew, Terry Hodge, niece and goddaughter, Lisa Miwshuk, and his dear uncle, Nick Sliwkanich.

The Balwin community played a significant role in Joseph’s family life, and their friends and families will share in their grief. Joseph also had a large circle of friends and staff at Shepards Garden Kensington, where he had spent the past 14 years. He often spoke of them during his time in the hospital, expressing his longing to return to their company.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate staff at Unit 18 of Sturgeon Hospital for their exceptional care and support during Joseph’s time there. Their kindness and dedication will forever hold a special place in their hearts. A funeral service will be held on November 1, 2023, at 2:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory can be made to the MS Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
