Romeo Joseph Beneteau, a resident of Vulcan, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on October 5, 2023, at the age of 76. He was born on November 12, 1946, in Windsor, Ontario. Romeo and his brother Harvey were lifelong farmers who supported each other through thick and thin. They left the family farm in 1975 and journeyed west, spending many years farming in Manitoba before settling in Alberta in 1989. They ventured into tire recycling and ran a successful business in Vulcan from 1991 to 1997. In 2013, Romeo’s health began to decline, but he remained a constant presence in his brother’s life. The two enjoyed traveling and exploring the Yukon, Alaska, the Arctic Circle, Saskatchewan, and the northern United States. Romeo’s brother Harvey will undoubtedly miss him dearly. Romeo is survived by his sister Jeanette Bezaire of Ontario, his brothers Harvey Beneteau of Vulcan, and Clayton Beneteau of Michigan, along with their families. He was predeceased by his father, Harvey Beneteau, his mother, Lorette Cote, and his siblings Angela Marontate, May Houle, Marguerite Mailloux, Martin, and Donald Beneteau. The gathering and inurnment in Romeo’s memory will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan Cemetery, with Celebrant Peter Holukoff officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to join Harvey and the family for coffee and donuts at Mama’s Pizza at 2 pm. Donations in Romeo’s honor can be made to the Vulcan County Health & Wellness Foundation.

They spent 14 years farming in Manitoba before relocating to Alberta in 1989. After working in Coronation, Arrowwood, and Mossleigh, they decided to venture into the tire recycling business. In 1991, they settled in Vulcan, where they purchased a building to run their business. After selling the tire recycling business in 1997, the brothers joined the Vulcan County Transfer Station until their retirement in 2013. Romeo’s health began to decline that year, but he remained a constant source of support for his brother Harvey. Together, they explored various destinations such as the Yukon, Alaska, the Arctic Circle, Saskatchewan, and the northern United States. Harvey will deeply miss Romeo, who is survived by his sister Jeanette Bezaire of Ontario, his brothers Harvey Beneteau of Vulcan, and Clayton Beneteau of Michigan, along with their respective families. He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Beneteau when he was 11 years old, his mother Lorette Cote when he was 18, and his siblings Angela Marontate, May Houle, Marguerite Mailloux, Martin, and Donald Beneteau. A gathering and inurnment in Romeo’s memory will be held on November 1, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Vulcan Cemetery, officiated by Celebrant Peter Holukoff. After working in Coronation, Arrowwood, and Mossleigh, they decided to pursue a tire recycling business. In 1991, they made Vulcan their home and purchased a building downtown to establish their enterprise. Following the sale of the business in 1997, Romeo and Harvey joined the Vulcan County Transfer Station, where they faithfully served until their retirement in 2013. Romeo faced declining health in that same year, but he always remained a constant presence in his brother’s life. Together, they embarked on travels, exploring remarkable destinations such as the Yukon, Alaska, the Arctic Circle, Saskatchewan, and the northern United States.
