Joyce Ella (Adams) Marshall

April 18, 1932

August 17, 2023

Joyce passed away peacefully at the age of 91, with her daughter Deb by her side on August 17, 2023, at Seaforth Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurie Marshall, whom she was married to for 51 years until his passing in 2004. Joyce will be deeply missed by her four children: Doug Marshall (Roberta), Deb Stanley (John), Hed Pearson (Wayne), and Greg Marshall (Joanne). She also leaves behind a loving legacy through her grandchildren, step-granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her siblings, Doug Adams, Muriel Churchill, Don Adams, Helen Hopper, Nancy Nunnikhoven, Larry Adams, and sister-in-law Pat Adams, as well as several nephews and nieces.

Born and raised in Yarmouth Nova Scotia, Joyce was the eldest of seven siblings. She met the love of her life, Laurie, in high school and they were married on April 29, 1953. Over the years, the couple lived in various parts of Canada before settling in Goderich. Joyce had an impressive career serving in the Airforce, working in the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, and retiring from the Assessment office in Goderich. She cherished her time spent in Florida during the winter seasons, where she became an avid line dancer and enjoyed taking cruises. Joyce was an active member of her community and proudly belonged to the Goderich Lioness, Royal Canadian Legion, and Ladies Auxiliary for the Knox Church. Her love for the water and the Goderich harbour brought her immense joy. In her later years, Joyce shared many jam sessions at the Legion with her companion Ron, and formed a special bond with Ron’s daughter, Rhonda.

Joyce was a remarkable woman who faced numerous health crises with courage and determination. She was immensely proud of her ability to stay in her own home until she was 90 years old, as it held treasured memories of her late husband, Laurie. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff and doctors at Seaforth Hospital for their exceptional care and support during Joyce’s unexpected extended journey.

Cremation has already taken place, and Joyce will be interred at Maitland Cemetery on September 10, 2023, at 11:30am. Following her wishes, a celebration of life will be held at the Knights of Columbus Goderich from 1pm to 4pm, aptly described as a “big party” with lots of music. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy and donations can be made to the Goderich Food Bank and Goderich Free Little Pantry. Personal condolences and information on contributions can be found at http://www.mccallumpalla.ca.
