June Emma Hefferman, aged 86, formerly known as June Emma Watts, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2023, in Elliot Lake, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 1, 1937, in Timmins to her parents William and Alice Watts, who have since passed away. On July 6, 1956, she married Bruce Hefferman, an esteemed member of the Canadian Armed Forces. June, a devoted military wife, accompanied her husband on his travels, while also pursuing her own career with the CAF Food Services in both Canada and abroad. Her exceptional culinary skills, most notably her renowned tourtière, will be cherished by her family for generations. June leaves behind her children Jody Wilson, Michael Hefferman (Cindy), Cindy Mathison (Tracy), and Stacey Hefferman (Marie-Andrée Morin), as well as her grandchildren Courtney Bielak (Alex), Sam Wilson (Nikki Gaudreau), Christyne Mathison (predeceased), Sarah June Hefferman (predeceased), and Jacob Hefferman (Charlene). She is preceded in death by her siblings Lloyd Watts, Pat Harwood (Richard), and Durrell Watts (Elaine), and is survived by her brother Gary Watts (Marilyn). June also had a close bond with her cousins Marlene and Lizette, and will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Beyond her dedication to her family, June had a passion for cooking, music, and dancing. She possessed a unique talent as a vocalist, infusing her own melodic twist into popular melodies like “The Birth of the Blues”. In accordance with June’s wishes, there will be no funeral arrangements. Instead, her family will hold a Celebration of Life on July 17, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in June’s name to the St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation in Elliot Lake.
