Katherine DeVere Perkins (nee Pascal)

Katherine (Kay) Perkins, beloved mother, passed away on September 17, 2023, at the age of 93. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta on August 25, 1930, Kay was the third daughter of Peter and DeVere Pascal. After graduating from Lethbridge high school, she relocated to Calgary with her parents and started working in a dentist’s office. It was in Calgary that she met and married James (Jim) Perkins in April 1952. Together, they cherished their roles as parents and Kay dedicated herself to being a homemaker until James’ untimely passing in 1963. She then joined Canadian Western Natural Gas Company (ATCO Gas) and faithfully served for 29 years until her retirement in 1992. During her retirement, she found joy in various activities, including volunteering at Confederation Park Seniors Centre, participating in the CWL at Corpus Christi Church, and traveling. Kay’s love for sports was cultivated by watching her husband, three sons, and grandchildren engage in sporting events. Furthermore, she became renowned for her delectable shortbread cookies, which she lovingly baked every Christmas.

Katherine is survived by her sister Diane (Rich) Hirsekorn, her sons Mike (Darlene), Donald (Lynn Arden), and Gord (Deb), three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim) Perkins, her sisters Cecilia “Cec” (Merv) Graham and Nadean (Martin) Meyer, her brother Peter (Marion) Pascal, and her granddaughter Lynn Perkins D’Onofrio.

A Prayer Service honoring Katherine’s memory will take place at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Calgary, AB, on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will then be held at the same location on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. In tribute to Katherine Perkins, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells.
