Lan Heung (Mak) Yu passed away on August 19, 2023 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was born on October 26, 1926 in Toisan, Guangdong, China and later immigrated to Saskatoon in 1980. Preceding her in death were her father Sack Wing Mak, mother Kam Mon Dong, husband Siu Cheong Yu, and daughter Mary Mark. She is survived by her daughter Leslie, sons Peter (Yvonne) and Michael (Jenny), son-in-law Tom Mark, and grandchildren Stan (Margot), Justin, Topaza, Annie (Allan), and great-grandchildren Alexander and Aidan, Kit (Nathan), Nola, Nika, Neve, and Nano. She is also survived by her brother Frank (Elaine), nieces Sophia, Sylvia, and Amy, and their families.

Lan was a remarkable individual who displayed intelligence, courage, and kindness throughout her life. Despite facing numerous challenges in China, such as war and political upheaval, she persevered. Even in Canada, she encountered various obstacles, but her determination allowed her to overcome them. Above all, she always prioritized her family and loved them deeply. Her sense of humor was contagious, and she had a treasure trove of captivating stories. Lan found joy in tending to her garden, cooking, and listening to Chinese opera. Additionally, she had a keen interest in Chinese Herbal Medicine, often experimenting with different herbs and learning about various ailments. Her presence will be greatly missed, and her teachings will forever be cherished.

The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate emergency staff at Royal University Hospital. The funeral service to honor Lan’s life will take place on Friday, August 25th at 2pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home on 338 Fourth Avenue North. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, and a supper will be held at the Mandarin Restaurant.
