Laurie Kraftcheck

Laurie Francis Joseph Kraftcheck peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2023, at Jessica’s House Hospice in Exeter. He was in his 77th year and resided in Exeter. Laurie was a beloved husband, having married Susan (nee Weicker) Kraftcheck on June 26, 1971. Together, they raised three children: Dr. Erin Kraftcheck and her husband Will Wong of Oakville, Brendan Kraftcheck of London, and Nathan Edward Kraftcheck of Exeter. Laurie was deeply missed by his grandchildren Jaden, Lauren, and Madison. He is survived by his brother Dr. Daniel and his wife Patricia Kraftcheck of Hamilton, his mother-in-law Doris Weicker of New Hamburg, and his sisters-in-law Marion Shantz of Plattsville, Laurel and Wilf Thyssen of Fergus, and Tracy Sheard of Plattsville. Laurie was preceded in death by his parents Denny and Dorothy (Lendzioszek) Kraftcheck, his son Nathan Mitchell Kraftcheck (1978), and his father-in-law Howard Weicker.

Throughout his life, Laurie was dedicated to education, working for 45 years as an educator for the Huron-Perth Catholic District School board. He was particularly passionate about promoting the Sciences and the Canada-Wide Youth Science Fair. Moreover, Laurie served as a volunteer with Scouts Canada for 34 years, positively impacting the lives of countless young individuals. In addition to his educational and volunteer efforts, Laurie was an enthusiastic living history reenactor for the past two decades.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Laurie’s life at the Detweiler Meeting House, located at 3445 Roseville Rd. in Ayr, ON, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The inurnment will take place in the Roseville Mennonite Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Jessica’s House Hospice in Exeter. Personal condolences can be shared at http://www.gffh.ca. Additionally, the family encourages those who are able to consider donating blood, as Laurie himself was grateful for the weekly blood donations he received during his treatment phases.
