McILWRAITH, Lavona Lillian
July 11, 1939 March 12, 2024

Lavona Lillian Mcilwraith (née Meakes, born in Lestock, Saskatchewan) lived an honest, inspiring, humble life filled with love, compassion, integrity, contribution, and a deep sense of justice.

We are filled with profound sadness in announcing the passing of our dear sweet mother, Lavona, on March 12, 2024, at the Leduc Community Hospital. With dignity, courage, and grace, Lavona overcame so many obstacles in her beautiful life, including her final days when she suffered with tremendous courage as she journeyed into the Spirit World where her husband, Mowat Edgar Mcilwraith; her parents Lucabelle and James Meakes; her sister, Ruth Meakes; her brother, James Thomas Calvin Meakes; her parents-in-law; her granddaughter, Adriana Suzi; her son-in-law, Christopher Suzi; various relatives and ancestors, and our Creator welcome her. Lavona is survived by her children, Leila Mcilwraith, Naomi Mcilwraith, Charlene Sorken (Dave), Cameron Mcilwraith (Nicole), and Tina Suzi; her grandchildren, Kayla Robyn Mcilwraith, Eric Butler, and Carly Didham; and her great-grandchildren, Kailer, Kyah, Ivory, Timothy, Archer, Keisha, Keishaun, Justice, Natalia, Nadia, Christopher, Shardai, Angel, and Julez, and her brother-in-law, John (Shauna).

Lavona worked for 37 years as a Registered Nurse, 7 in pediatrics and 30 in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. She and Mowat also became foster parents and provided a safe haven and deep love for numerous babies at-risk.

Lavona’s family thanks the many health care workers who cared for her and us through this difficult passage, especially Dr. Chaudry, Mindy Ross, Tyler Muri, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Health Care Aids at the Leduc Community Hospital.

Lavona’s Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 111 Avenue, Edmonton; Viewing at 10 a.m., and Service at 11 a.m. with interment in Northern Lights Cemetery, 15203 Campbell Road, NW, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Edmonton Humane Society in Lavona’s name: https://www.edmontonhumanesociety.com/how-to-help/donate/donate-now/Photos, memories, and condolences may be shared through http://www.parkmemorial.com
