It is with deep sadness that the Monette family announces the passing of Mr. Lionel Monette. Peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, he peacefully departed from this world at his residence in L’Ange-Gardien. Mr. Monette was joined in holy matrimony with his beloved wife Stella for 58 remarkable years. Their love endured until her passing. Mr. Monette is survived by his children Denis (Laurie MacLean), Jean-François, and Sylvie. His memory lives on through his five grandchildren: Andrea, Christopher, Alexander, Sonya, and Chantal, as well as his six great-grandchildren: Huxley, Keats, Romeo, Charlie, Lexie, and Liam.

Born in Hull (Quebec), Lionel was the eighth child of Phillias Monette and Gladys Hewston. Sadly, he outlived all of his brothers and sisters: Inez, Edmond, Alice, Laura, Merlin, Aline, Patricia, and Rhea. Lionel dedicated 35 years of his life to Christie Brown & Company, commencing his career in Ottawa and eventually ascending to the esteemed position of National Director of Shipping in Montreal before retiring in 1987.

Lionel’s enduring legacy will be that of a devoted husband and father. He exemplified unwavering loyalty and camaraderie as a friend, selflessly helping others whenever needed. He toiled tirelessly and made countless sacrifices to provide the best possible life for his beloved family. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, cherishing family get-togethers, indulging in his passion for hockey, embarking on hunting expeditions, and relishing pontoon boat rides on the Lièvre River near his cherished abode as he neared the end of his earthly journey.

The Monette family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jean-François, Lionel’s remarkable primary caregiver, as well as the entire medical team and support staff at Buckingham CLSC. Their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care allowed Lionel to remain in his cherished home until his final breath. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lionel’s memory may be made to the Fondation Santé de Papineau, located at 155 MacLaren East Street, Gatineau, Quebec, J8L 0C2.

A private celebration of Lionel’s life will be held exclusively for his family at the cemetery.
