Lydia Perrin

Lydia Perrin, a cherished mother, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023, at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Ralph, and her sister Leona (Bob) Rieck, brothers Gordon (Gertrud) and Arnold (Lully) Pubantz, as well as brother-in-law Jack (Maggie) Perrin. Left to mourn her loss are her daughters Joan (Robin) Dodge, Sheila (John) Paynter, and son Brian (Rose) Perrin. Lydia is also survived by her three grandchildren, Roger (Christie), Jennifer (Scott), and Heather (Jason), four great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Born on July 23, 1930, in Patience, Alberta, Lydia Perrin was the youngest child of Edward and Leokadia Pubantz. Sadly, her childhood was cut short when she assumed the role of caretaker for her family at the tender age of 15 following her mother’s passing. At 19, she married the love of her life, Ralph, and together they farmed and raised their children just three miles from where Lydia had grown up.

After their children had grown, Ralph and Lydia relocated to Wetaskiwin, Alberta, where they forged many meaningful friendships and created cherished memories. When Ralph passed away in 2002, Lydia, always a resilient woman, continued to visit family and embraced an active social life. In 2017, while visiting her daughters, Lydia made an unexpected decision to move to Westbank, BC, and quickly settled in the Heritage Retirement Centre. The last six years of her life overflowed with love from her family and new, wonderful friendships.

In accordance with Lydia’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. Her final resting place will be next to her beloved Ralph in Wetaskiwin, where a short graveside service for immediate family will be held on a date yet to be determined. Memorial donations in Lydia’s honor can be made to Parkinson Canada, a cause dear to her heart. Condolences and messages of support for the family can be shared at http://www.hansonsfuneral.ca.
