Marc T. Martin, a resident of Pain Court, passed away peacefully at the age of 67 on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. His sudden illness came as a shock to his family. Born in Chatham, Marc was the son of Marie Louise Martin and the late Arthur Martin (1976). He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marianne Martin, with whom he raised two children, Andrea Ellis and Grant Martin. His grandchildren, Sophie and Claire Ellis, and Bernice Martin, brought him immense joy. Marc also leaves behind his siblings Michelle Vanden Enden, Pierre Martin, Luc Martin, and Marcy Morrison. He was deeply cherished as a brother-in-law by Marguie Papps, Tom Pepper, John Pepper, and Paul Pepper. Marc’s mother-in-law, Rosemarie Pepper, will greatly miss him.

In his younger days, Marc had a passion for various outdoor activities such as baseball, ice fishing, trapping, and skating with his brothers and childhood friends. He continued playing first baseman as a young adult and developed a strong admiration for the Montreal Canadiens after meeting Jean Beliveau. Marc dedicated his professional life to the agricultural sector, working as a Sales Manager of farm chemicals and fertilizer. Local farmers highly regarded his expertise and sought his advice. Unfortunately, at the age of 50, Marc had to retire due to a cancer diagnosis in 2006. Despite this setback, he remained active by refurbishing and auctioning a classic tractor, donating the proceeds to the Oncology department at CKHA. Additionally, he selflessly donated a plot of land to Habitat for Humanity and regularly gave blood to help strangers in need, a practice he began at the age of 18. Marc’s strong work ethic and his desire to assist others were values instilled in him by his parents.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Sutherland for her unwavering commitment to Marc’s care, as well as Dr. Bashir and the nursing staff of the ICU at CKHA for their exceptional patient care during his final days. A Celebration of Life for Marc will be held at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club on November 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family kindly requests donations in memory of Marc to be made to the Oncology Department of the C.K.H.A. Foundation. Online condolences may be left at http://www.mckinlayfuneralhome.comMcKinlay Funeral Home.
