Margaret Dorothy Newburn (Maggie)

Maggie Newburn, aged 91, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Sudbury to Bertha and Basil Warren, Maggie attended Sudbury Secondary School and worked as a Medical Secretary and a Medical Records Clerk for 30 years. She was married to her high school sweetheart Jim for 38 years, and after his passing, she found love once again with Tom Newburn, whom she married in 1992. Maggie and Tom enjoyed their retirement by traveling extensively until her battle with Alzheimer’s began.

Maggie is survived by her devoted husband, Tom Newburn, while being predeceased by her first husband, Jim Edmunds. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her children Bob Edmunds, Wendy Monaghan, Brent Edmunds, and Kelli Gatien (Dean). Maggie was also a caring stepmother to Nancy Jane Collard (Glen) and Tim Newburn (Kate). She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren Jennifer Monaghan, Robin Edmunds (Sterling), Ryan Edmunds, Aaron Edmunds (Mariah), Amanda Ouellette (Al), Katrina Edmunds, Matthew Gatien, and Michael (Celine) Gatien. Additionally, Maggie was a step-grandmother to Tyler, Courtney, and Madison Collard, as well as Paisley, Gillian, and Graeme Newburn. She was a proud great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren. Maggie was a dear sister to Diana Binelli and sister-in-law to John Edmunds (Carol) of Oshawa, with Mary Edmunds being predeceased. She will be remembered by her daughter-in-law Kate Bruce, as well as her nieces and nephews Peter Binelli, Scott Edmunds, and Jill Clark.

Maggie’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff of St. Gabriel’s Villa for their unwavering care and dedication throughout Maggie’s journey with Alzheimer’s. They were particularly touched by the staff’s efforts to bring smiles to Maggie’s face and brighten her days. Tom and Kelli will deeply miss these kind souls who went out of their way to bid Maggie a fond farewell as she transitioned.

A Memorial Service will be held at the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, located at 233 Larch Street, Sudbury, on Friday, August 25th, 2023, at 11:00am. There will be a cremation with interment in the family plot at Waters Cemetery. Friends are welcome to gather in the chapel starting from 10:30am on the 25th of August, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Sudbury Chapter, or Maison McCulloch Hospice.
