LAVOIE, Margaret Janice
September 9, 1946 –
March 11, 2024

Remaining behind to celebrate Janice’s life and to remember her with love is her longtime companion and best friend, Dolores; her brothers, Herb Lavoie, Tom (Cheryl) Lavoie; brother- in-law, Ed Heitzman; nephews and nieces, Lindsay (Levi), Donald (Chris), Michael (Megan), Sara (Sean), and Jeffrey, and the great-nieces and nephews, Elliot, Nico, Theo, Sullivan, Makayla, and Payton.

Janice was predeceased by her brother Donald in 1963, her sister Jackie in 2019, and both parents. Janice also shared her love freely with Dolores’ family, Derek, Tammy, Paul, Janine and all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janice spent many hours happily playing piano for our sing-songs at home and playing her banjolele and singing with the ukulele group at the senior’s centre. Music was the passion in her life, and she knew all the words and harmonies to thousands of songs. She loved all the old musicals and managed to watch a good number of them in the last few months.

She had a long and varied career, mostly in various levels of government, retiring in 2001 after 25 years with the City of Edmonton. She was the most honest person I have ever known. She cherished lifelong friends from all walks of life and tried to stay in touch. Janice loved to travel, to go to the theatre and the Winspear, to go to great restaurants, to navigate on drives, to watch the birds and squirrels in our backyard, and was working hard at remembering the flowers that perfumed her walks.

Whatever awaits us when we pass, I suspect Janice will be there putting on concerts to entertain while making people chuckle and groan at her puns, and she’ll have a bottomless pocket of dog treats, one for every dog in heaven.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the food bank or to the Kidney Foundation.Loved, missed, never forgotten.
