Margarethe Eggink

Margarethe Eggink, previously known as Margarethe Steinkress, passed away at the age of 91 in Salzburg, Austria on August 4, 2023. She will be remembered as an exceptional woman who possessed an unwavering resourcefulness, an independent and candid spirit, as well as immense courage and creativity in various aspects of life including arts, plans, and solutions.

Margarethe lived a remarkable life, navigating through the tumultuous era of war, chaos, and destruction during her youth. She pursued nursing training in Enfield, England, and later immigrated to Canada where she found love and happiness with her devoted husband, Hans. Margarethe dedicated many years to working as a private care nurse, while also raising a family. Although she faced the tragic loss of her daughter Barbara, Margarethe’s loving memory will live on through her husband Hans, son Christian (Danna), granddaughter Natalie Pizzacalla (Chris), as well as her sister Christine Rettenbacher (Robert), son-in-law John Pizzacalla, and extended family and friends. Her peaceful passing occurred at Trillium Ridge, memory care.

One of Margarethe’s defining characteristics was her unwavering candor as she aged. She expressed her thoughts and opinions with transparency, often providing distinct facial expressions that indicated the level of satisfaction she felt towards an activity, idea, or comment. Although not particularly talkative, Margarethe possessed a wealth of knowledge from her extensive reading and frequently reflected on current affairs.

Margarethe was both intellectually and artistically inclined. Her hands were always in motion, engaging in various creative pursuits such as knitting intricate pieces, crafting beautiful wall hangings, painting captivating images on canvas and eggs, and capturing breathtaking photographs with her keen eye. Now, her hands have found rest, leaving behind cherished memories. Her brilliant mind has finally found peace.

In accordance with Margarethe’s wishes, her remains were cremated, and no formal service is planned. The family expresses gratitude and admiration to the staff at Trillium Ridge for ensuring her safety, comfort, and providing a loving environment.
