Mark WILSON
Mark Wilson, born on July 6, 1994, passed away on October 24, 2023, at the age of 29, peacefully and unexpectedly at the Brantford General Hospital with his loved ones by his side. Mark will be deeply missed by his adoring mother, Krista Butler (Jimi Zimmer), his sisters Melissa Smetana (Mat Haydon) and Cindy Brown (Garrett Brown), as well as his nephew Koen and niece Harlyn. He is also survived by his Grandfather James Butler, his late Grandmother Blanche Butler, uncle James Butler (Audrey Maitland), uncle Jason Butler (Lydia Van Woudenberg) and cousins Wesley, Catharina, Jade, Madison, and Lynden. On the Wilson side, Mark is survived by his father Mark Wilson, his late Grandfather Harry Wilson, his late Grandmother Pam Wilson, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Known affectionately as “MJ,” Mark had a profound passion for fishing and would often spend his early mornings or late evenings at the Grand River, patiently waiting for the catch of the day. He found solace in the great outdoors, cherished leisurely walks through town, enjoyed playing video games, and treasured spending quality time with his family and friends. Mark’s kind heart, infectious laughter, and radiant smile will forever be engraved in the memories of those who knew him.
A devoted music lover, Mark’s taste in bands spanned from Metallica and Megadeth to Nazareth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborne, and Led Zeppelin. It was no surprise to encounter Mark proudly donning the t-shirt of one of his favorite bands. He loved connecting his guitar to an amp and jamming with his stepfather Jimi, uncle Jake, and brother-in-law Garrett. When a catchy tune played, one could always hear Mark humming along or playing air guitar, thoroughly immersed in the music. He particularly cherished the time spent with his sister Melissa and brother-in-law Mat, whether it entailed wandering the town or embarking on exciting adventures away from home. Family gatherings were a treasured time for Mark, as the joy on his niece and nephews’ faces upon seeing him was undeniable. They eagerly ran into his arms, begging to play video games, shoot hoops, or bounce on the trampoline. Mark, fondly known as Uncle MJ, was always ready to engage in some fun-filled activities. His absence will be deeply felt by his niece, nephews, and other family members alike.
A visitation to pay respects will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson St. Brantford. Cremation will follow, and in the upcoming months, a private service will take place where Mark will be laid to rest at the Waterford Greenwood Cemetery.
