Mary-Anne Hope Stowe

Mary-Anne Hope Stowe, a remarkable woman who lived a fulfilled life and provided immense support to her loved ones, passed away on July 18th, just one month before her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband David, who passed away on September 7, 2009. Mary-Anne is survived by her children Lesley (Geoffrey Scott), Craig (Nadia Iadisernia), and Marianne (Kyle Balagno). Additionally, she is remembered by her brother Bruce Johnstone, grandchildren Mackenzie, Alexa, Sebastian, Douglas, and Gillian, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Vancouver on August 23, 1933, Mary-Anne graduated from York House School and pursued nursing at UBC. She showcased her medical expertise as an operating room nurse at Vancouver General Hospital and later, for a span of two decades, as part of the special products distribution center at the BC Children’s Hospital. Her dedication extended beyond her professional life, as she actively volunteered for various organizations including the Junior League, the Family Christmas Ball, and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre Auxiliary. Mary-Anne also contributed her time and skills to the BC Sports Hall of Fame, serving on its board.

Avid sports enthusiast Mary-Anne engaged in activities such as tennis, golf, water skiing, and snow skiing. She found joy in spending moments in Whistler and Palm Desert, and possessed a competitive spirit when it came to card games. Mary-Anne’s adventurous nature and love for exploration led her, alongside her husband David and countless friends, to travel across the globe.
