Mary KLASSEN

Mary Klassen, formerly known as Mary Dyck, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving husband, Art Klassen, and their children: Marilyn (Dale) Klassen-Woodkey of Plugerville, TX, Debra (Greg) Barratt of Winnipeg, MB, Kimberly (Brent) Sigurdson of Grand Forks, ND, and Patricia (Kelly) Klassen-Morton of Winnipeg, MB. Mary was also blessed with several grandchildren: Josh, Jordan, Mariell, Robin, Arden, Charlie, AJ, Katie, and Kalan. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband Arthur, parents Peter and Mary Dyck, sisters Anne and Tene, and brother Peter.

Born on July 6, 1933, in Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Mary’s life took a turn when she met the love of her life, Art, during a baseball tournament where he was coaching the opposing team. They tied the knot on September 6, 1953, and initially settled in Vermillion Bay, Ontario. However, they eventually moved to Altona, MB, where their first daughter, Marilyn, was born. Subsequent moves led them to Winnipeg (East St. Paul) where they welcomed daughters Debra and Kimberly. The journey continued as Art and Mary purchased a bulk oil agency in Morden, MB, and their fourth daughter, Patricia, was born. The couple formed deep connections wherever they went, actively participating in community events such as the Trinity United Church Choir, Rotary Club, and Portage Golf Club. Mary was known for her green thumb and her beautiful flower gardens surrounding the golf course. Retirement brought them winter retreats in Texas to be with family and enjoy their shared love of golf. Art and Mary Klassen will be fondly remembered as kind, generous, and loving parents, grandparents, and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Art and Mary Klassen will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Trinity United Church, officiated by Wilma Shirriff.
