Matthew A. Reutcky, aged 89, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2023 at the Royal Victoria Hospital, surrounded by his wife and children. He obtained his dentistry degree from McGill and dedicated himself to a successful career. Serving as a dentist in Westmount, Matthew also volunteered at the Shriner’s – Montreal Hospital for Crippled Children for many years, was the clinical director of the Dental Department at the Royal Victoria Hospital for three decades, and worked as a dental consultant for various insurance companies and the RCMP in recent years.

Matthew was a man who embraced life with great enthusiasm. He had a previous marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Jean McEwan-Fraser, until her passing in 1995. Matthew will always be remembered for his contributions as a dentist and educator, as well as his love for woodworking, culinary talents, and passion for discussing US politics in his later years.

He is survived by his spouse of 27 years, Louise Hurtubise, his son Charles (Sophie Bitsakis), his stepchildren Laurie Fraser (Iain Muir), Cameron (deceased) (Louise Soucy), Kim (Mark Dagys), Tracey (Mike Snarr), and his many grandchildren: Matthew and Karly Dagys, David and Patrick Snarr, Isabelle and Margaux Fraser.

The funeral service will take place at the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:30 am. The family will be available at the chapel entrance from 11:00 am to receive condolences. Following the ceremony, a small reception will be held in the church’s crypt.

Donations in Matthew’s memory can be made to one of the three foundations he supported: The Children’s Wish Foundation (Make a Wish Foundation), The Andy Collins for Kids Foundation (for the Montreal Children’s Hospital), or The Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation (The RVH Foundation – part of MUHC Foundation). Floral arrangements are kindly declined.
