Micheal Ducey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Micheal Arthur Ducey on October 17, 2023, at the age of 58, following a courageous ten-month battle with brain cancer (GBM). Despite his determined efforts, Mike succumbed to the illness. He is survived by his father Bill, wife Kathy, sons Zachary and Shane, siblings Brian and Trish (Joe), sister-in-law Becky, and his nieces and nephews Samantha, Teagan, and Kaylee. Mike was predeceased by his mother Sandra. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the friends, extended family, and well-wishers who supported Mike and his loved ones during this difficult time.

Born in Ottawa on June 22, 1965, Mike’s childhood was marked by various military relocations due to Bill’s career. From Newfoundland to Germany, Nanaimo to CFB Penhold, Mike adapted to new environments as he grew up. After completing high school in Red Deer, he initially worked in the construction industry before joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1987. His military service took him to Germany for a significant portion of his career. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Kathy, who was living in Hong Kong. In 1993, they both returned to British Columbia and were wedded in July 1994.

In pursuit of his passion for engineering, Mike enrolled in full-time studies at BCIT in 1997. He graduated in 1999 with a diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering. Following his education, Mike assumed the role of General Manager at Western Tank & Lining until 2015. He then joined Metro Vancouver, where he worked as a Division Manager until his untimely passing. Mike cherished his family, including his beloved pets Luna and Calli, and found immense joy in activities such as riding motorcycles, playing golf, savoring a good cup of coffee, and his cherished vacations to Hawaii. His presence will be sorely missed during future trips with his loved ones to the island paradise.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Richmond Funeral Home on November 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. This gathering will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and acquaintances to honor and pay their final respects to a remarkable individual whose memory will forever remain in their hearts.
