Muriel Babij, nee Marcotte, passed away at the age of 89 on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Health Sciences North. She was lovingly reunited with her husband John Babij, who passed away in 2005. Muriel was a devoted mother to her sons Michael and Peter, who predeceased her, as well as her daughters May (Claude Prevost) of Ottawa and Cora of Coniston. She will be remembered as a cherished grandmother to Dawn, Krista (Brent), Amber, Adam (Katy), Matthew, Steven (Jessica), Marc (Silvia), Tyler (Amanda), and Robert (Sloan), and lovingly known as GMA to her eleven great grandchildren. Muriel was the daughter of Elsie and Peter Marcotte and had several siblings.

In her younger years, Muriel was an avid curler and continued to be a devoted fan of the sport. She eagerly awaited the start of each season and would often humorously complain about her sore knees from dragging them on the ice. Muriel held a special place in her heart for the support workers from the March of Dimes who provided outstanding care and visits that she greatly enjoyed. The dedicated staff at Health Science North also played a crucial role in providing excellent care for her. She will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

As per Muriel’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or funeral service. Instead, a Celebration of Life will be held on October 22, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Coniston Curling Club. Cremation will take place at the Park Lawn Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to the March of Dimes Sudbury would be greatly appreciated. Muriel’s arrangements have been entrusted to Lougheed Funeral Homes. For more information, please visit their website at http://www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com.
