Muriel Hanson

Muriel Elizabeth Hanson, a 97-year-old resident of Fundy Royal Manor in Hillsborough, passed away on November 1st, 2023, surrounded by her family. Muriel was born in Demoiselle Creek on January 14, 1926, to Liffie and Elizabeth Henwood. She took great pride in raising her family and was married to Lloyd Hanson. Together, they nurtured their children with love and support. Muriel had an illustrious career at the Peter Pan Restaurant, starting as a waitress and eventually becoming a Supervisor. She actively participated in the Valley Baptist Church and served as a member of the Hillsborough Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #32. Muriel had an indomitable spirit, facing life’s challenges with determination and a positive attitude. She cherished laughter, good times, and treasured her many dear friends. Above all, her family held a special place in her heart, and her unwavering support for them was reciprocated.

Muriel is survived by her children: Gail Milton of Hillsborough, John Mariboe of Oregon, USA, Gary Hanson (Heather) of Curryville, Brenda McCoubrey (Terry) of Stoney Creek, James Hanson (Beth) of Stoney Creek, and Cheryl Glendenning (Arnold) of Shepody. She was also a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her sisters, Marjorie Keirstead of Amherst and Lorena Phillips of Lower Coverdale, and several nieces, and nephews will deeply miss her. Additionally, her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hanson, her family at Fundy Royal Manor, and numerous friends mourn her loss. Preceding Muriel in death were her husband, Lloyd Hanson; daughter, Nancy; son, David Hanson; son-in-law, Donald Milton; grandson, Danny; great-grandchildren, Karen Clark and Joedin Leger; brothers, Henry, Richard, Ottis, Merton, and Clayton; brothers-in-law, Sandy Phillips and Bob Keirstead.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Fundy Royal Manor for their exceptional care and kindness towards Muriel. Their support gave the family peace of mind, knowing that Muriel was well-taken care of and loved. In accordance with Muriel’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Private Family Graveside Service officiated by Rev. Dean MacDonald will be held at the Grey’s Island Cemetery in Hillsborough. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Grey’s Island Cemetery, Valley Baptist Church, or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
