Neva Lohnes

Neva Barbara Stuart Lohnes, beloved mother, passed away on June 5, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on September 12, 1936, in Woodstock, NB, to James Byron Carr and Thelma Carr (née Snow). Barbara had a vibrant youth and actively participated in various activities, including teaching swimming, bowling, and curling. She was a dedicated member of the local Anglican Church and played an essential role in Woodstock society.

If you knew Barbara, you knew her love for indulging in a good sundae with chocolate sauce and brownies, which she often shared with her grandchildren for breakfast. She possessed a multitude of talents, from whistling any tune to devouring books avidly. Barb found immense pleasure in spending her winters in Florida with her late husband, Bob (Robert Owen Lohnes), soaking up the sun on the beach using her Australian Gold Oil. Apart from her culinary skills in making delicious bread, rolls, crab dip, and ambrosia salad, shopping at L.L.Bean in Freeport Maine brought her great joy.

While Barbara spent over 50 years in Nova Scotia, her fondest memories were of the seven years she and her husband were posted with the RCMP in Ottawa. She leaves behind her four children, Christopher (Susan) from Yorkton, Sask., Timothy (Kerri) from Lawrencetown, N.S., Matthew (Danielle) from Leduc, Alta, and Sara (Paul) from Enfield, N.S. Her grandchildren, Alexandra, Samuel, Kathryn, Courtney, Dustin, Noah, and her cherished friend Jillian, as well as great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kayce, held a special place in her heart.

The Taylor family, comprising Jennifer, Kristen, and Sean, were dear to her, and she cared for them immensely while residing in Dartmouth. The family expresses gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at the Truro Hospital for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Audeamus Service Dogs at http://www.audeamus.ca/take-action. A graveside service, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bob, will be scheduled for a later date.
