Noreen Mallory Hood

Noreen, a skilled printmaker and painter, peacefully passed away on September 17, 2023, at her residence in Toronto after a brief illness. She was 94 years old. Originally from Brockville, Ontario, Noreen received her education at the Ontario College of Art. Following her studies, she relocated to Montreal, where she taught at the Saidye Bronfman Centre and showcased her own artwork in various galleries. Noreen subsequently made Toronto her home, continuing to exhibit her creations and share her knowledge as a teacher well into her 90s.

Noreen leaves behind cherished memories for her children Sarah (Jonathan), John, and Alexandra, as well as her grandchildren Alex and Tara, and her step-granddaughter Niamh (Andrew). Sadly, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Canadian novelist Hugh Hood, and a son named Dwight.

A funeral service honoring Noreen’s life will take place at St. Ann’s Church, located at 120 First Avenue in Toronto, on Saturday, October 28, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Noreen’s memory may be made to Covenant House Toronto. The legacy of Noreen’s artistic talents and her impact as a teacher will be remembered with great fondness by those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
