Norma Gardiner

Norma Jean Gardiner, a beloved member of the Tilbury and Chatham communities, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2023, at the age of 94. She was the cherished daughter of Henry and Vera Gardiner and loving sister of the late Eileen Ivison. Norma will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, including Robert, Jayne, and Miriam, as well as her great-niece Jennifer. Her dear friend Gudrun held a special place in her heart, and together they enjoyed many memorable Saturday dinners at their favorite restaurants. Norma will always be remembered for her dedicated volunteer work at St. Andrew’s Residence and her support of the St. Andrew’s Auxiliary. She was fondly known as “Aunt Norma” not only to her family but also to the wider Chatham Kent community, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

Norma dedicated a significant portion of her life to her career at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham, where she worked tirelessly for 43 years. During her tenure, she served as Deputy Sheriff and played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the courthouse. Known for her selflessness and generosity, Norma was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Her colleagues greatly valued her kind nature and appreciated her unwavering support.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Tilbury Manor and the CKHA 4B unit for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Norma during her time with them. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home on October 5, 2023. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Another visitation will take place on October 6, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Greg Simpson. Norma will be laid to rest at Maple Leaf Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice.
