October 20, 2023

Patricia Marilyn Nicol (nee Ready) passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was married to her late husband, Robert John Nicol, for an incredible 50 years, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Pat’s memory will forever live on through her four children: Cindy (Marc), Lindsay (Anne), Jennifer (Russell), and Jeff (Lori). She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Ryan (Mélanie), Mathew (Amy), Patrick (Kate), Brock, MacKenzie (Katie), Robyn, and Marshall (Rachel), as well as a great-granddaughter named Catherine. Her family meant the world to her and brought immense joy to her life.

Pat, the daughter of Thomas Ready and Hilda Watters, grew up in Ottawa. She was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also an influential figure in Ottawa’s construction industry alongside her husband, Robert. Pat served as an Alderman and Controller, and she even ran for Mayor, displaying her passion for her community and helping the less fortunate. As a fearless advocate, she made a significant impact. Additionally, Pat was a well-known radio commentator and columnist, famously concluding her segments with her signature catchphrase, “I’m Pat Nicol and that’s the way I see it.”

We will forever hold our dear mother in our hearts and deeply miss her presence in our lives. A funeral mass in her honor will take place on Tuesday, October 31st, at 11 am at St. Patrick Parish in Fallowfield, located at 15 Steeple Hill Crescent. Following the service, a reception will be held. Instead of flowers, we kindly request donations to The Hillel Lodge LTC Foundation as a gesture of gratitude for the compassionate care Pat received during her time there.
