Paul Giles

It is with a heavy heart, that the family of Paul Giles announce his passing on January 27th, 2024, at the age of 95 years.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Deanna (Rick); cherished granddaughters, Kimberley and Hannah; his dear, dear friend Carole Daoust who was a constant friend and companion to Paul and the ‘eyes and ears’ for Deanna as Paul continued to live his wish of living independently, in the same building for over 40 years, until his passing. Paul will also be remembered by his brother Jeremie (Cristine), his nieces and nephews who loved him very much and his friends, including some Westmount clients who became friends; friendships that Paul treasured and felt honoured to have.

Paul was predeceased by his mother and father: Henriette and George; brother William and sister Marguerite.

Though he made his living as a painting contractor, Paul was an immensely talented artistic painter who created beautiful canvasses and drawings over a period of 60+ years. His memory will live on in these works of art, many of which, as originals or copies, were gifted to family and friends. Those close to Paul will also remember him as someone who cared greatly and who, during his life, continually felt the need to try and help those around him. Those he helped will, forever, remember Paul for his kindness.

His daughter would like to thank the staff and physicians at the Royal Victoria Hospital, at 9D North, for their kindness and caring during the last weeks of Paul’s life while at the hospital; in particular, Dr. David Hornstein, the most compassionate doctor we could have asked for, who made himself available to help Paul’s daughter navigate the stages to come and to work with the team to get Paul comfortable. Thank you.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by J.J. Cardinal, Lachine. Per Paul’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral service. A private burial will take place in the Spring at the Chateauguay Protestant Cemetery, where his mother is buried.
