Pearl LETWIN

Pearl Letwin, born Pearl Wowniar, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, at the age of 86, in Lamont, Alberta. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Peter Letwin, and their four sons, Ted (Donna), Terry (Bonnie), Wayne (Berni), and son-in-law Perry Koroluk. Pearl also leaves behind ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her brother, William Wowniar, and several in-laws mourn her passing as well. Pearl was predeceased by her daughter, Marilyn, and infant son, Michael, as well as her parents, Katherine and Nick Wowniar, and her in-laws Anita and Joe Padlecki, Viola Letwin, Brenda Letwin, Paul Zacharko, Harry Holyk, and John Letwin.

Pearl’s life began in Ukraine, where she was born. At just eighteen months old, she immigrated to Canada. In 1954, she met and married Peter Letwin, and together they established their home on a farm northeast of Lamont, where they raised their four children. In addition to her farming duties, Pearl pursued a career in healthcare. She completed the Personal Care Aide Program and devoted 25 years of service to the Lamont Health Care Centre. Pearl also managed the Lamont Hair Boutique. Her passions included travel, cooking and baking, gardening, farming, shopping, and berry picking. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pearl was deeply connected to her faith, regularly attending church, praying the rosary, and volunteering for the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League.

Remembered as a loving wife, mother, and Baba (grandmother), Pearl was admired for her faith, loyalty, compassion, kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she lived a fulfilling life that left a legacy of faith, traditions, and cherished memories. A Divine Liturgy in Pearl’s honor will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lamont, Alberta. Following the service, interment will take place at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Edmonton. In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to the Lamont Health Care Centre.
