Peter Braund, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023, at his cherished cottage. Surrounded by his loving family, Peter spent his final moments in the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings that held a special place in his heart. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Anne, his sister Tish, and his extended family. Peter left behind a lasting legacy as a devoted family man, accomplished lawyer, and respected mediator and arbitrator.

Born in Peterborough, Peter moved to British Columbia with his family during his teenage years. He pursued his higher education at the University of British Columbia, where he actively participated in student affairs, serving as the president of the AMS and later as Chairman for the construction of the “SUB” (Student Union Building). Peter graduated with an L.L.B in 1969 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1971. He embarked on a remarkable 41-year career with the firm of Borden and Elliot, now known as Borden, Ladner, Gervais. Following his retirement in 2010, Peter dedicated himself to mediation and arbitration, making significant contributions to organizations such as York Street and ADR Chambers. Additionally, he served on the board of his cottage association and worked with the Professional Engineers of Ontario for over a decade.

Devoted to his family, Peter was a loving and supportive father who took great joy in spending time with his loved ones. He possessed a passion for travel and had recently returned from a meaningful trip exploring Newfoundland and Labrador. Family always held the utmost importance to Peter, and his kindness, principles, and sense of humor will be greatly missed. His endearing catchphrases, such as “Look at the view! It’s always better with butter!” and “Watch the trucks!” will forever remain in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Haliburton School of Art and Design (Fleming College) or The Daily Food Bank in Toronto, or any local food bank, would be sincerely appreciated. A Celebration of Life will take place in early September to honor Peter’s life and legacy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Haliburton Community Funeral Home.
