Peter Laforest

Peter LaForest, aged 79, passed away on September 29, 2023, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Mavis, and their two sons, Tim LaForest (Cheryl) and Steven LaForest (Judy). Peter was also a proud grandfather to Aaron, Natalie, Abigail, Jonas, Lucas, and Sarah Andrew, and a great-grandfather to Liam and Lucas Houle. He is survived by his sisters Patsy O’Neil (Frank), Sandra Hitchcock, Charlene Hanscomb (Perley), Carolyn Roach, and Elizabeth LaForest, as well as his brothers Patrick LaForest (Kathy), John LaForest (Kim), and Paul LaForest (Sylvie). Peter’s cherished son, Christopher Michael LaForest, preceded him in death, along with his brother Raymond (Gemma) LaForest, his parents Pat and Opal LaForest Jamieson, his father and mother-in-law Milan and Cora Hoyt, and his niece Grace Emily Hoyt.

During his career, Peter dedicated 30 years and 11 months to working for NB Power before retiring. Even after retiring, he continued to contribute his skills and work at various locations such as Kings Landing, Fort McMurray Airport, Mactaquac Provincial Park, the Fredericton Jail, Kingsclear Farm, and the Perth Andover Jail. Peter was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kingsclear, NB. He also took pleasure in being a TOPS leader for #1459 Nashwaaksis, NB. Additionally, Peter selflessly volunteered for 15 years with the Ground Search and Rescue and the Keswick Ridge Fire Department.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation at York Funeral Home in Fredericton, NB, on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 2-5 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 2 pm at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kingsclear, NB, with Father Bill Brennan as the celebrant. Pallbearers for the service will be Joe Hoyt, Andrew-Sean Connor, Dale Hanscomb, Darrell Hanscomb, Brian Hoyt, and Roger Cormier, while Elaine Gildart, Myrtle Wood, Joyce Fasquel, Hazel Turnbul, and Judy and Clarence Coffey will act as Honourary Pallbearers. Peter will be laid to rest at Pickard Merrithew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, or any other charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences can be offered through the website http://www.yorkfh.com.

As Peter is remembered and mourned, his loved ones find solace in the quote “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Thanks be to God.”
