Peter peacefully passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital on September 13, 2023, at the remarkable age of 96 after a brief period of illness. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia and from 1935 to 1945, Peter attended a boarding school in China, unfortunately unable to reunite with his parents in Canada until the end of the war. Sadly, he was predeceased by his parents Joe and Elsie, as well as his wife Irene in 2006, his daughter Linda in 2007, and his siblings Rose, John, and Dave. However, he is survived by his son Terry and his wife Patricia, their children Brendan and Marisa, his son-in-law Steve, and Steve and Linda’s daughters Bethany and Jenessa. Peter also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter was a gentle and dedicated family man, always putting his loved ones first. Following his retirement, he and Irene spent much of their time caring for their beloved grandchildren, which brought them immense happiness. Even after Irene’s passing, Peter continued to take care of his grandchildren while also indulging in simple pleasures like daily walks, reading the newspaper, meeting old friends for coffee at McDonald’s, and occasionally experimenting with new recipes. It was widely agreed that his sticky rice was simply the best!

Unfortunately, a stroke in 2019 stripped Peter of his independence, necessitating a move into long term care. Despite this challenge, he consistently greeted his visitors with a warm smile. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Judith Hammond, who tirelessly advocated for Peter’s wellbeing. In accordance with Peter’s wishes, there will be no memorial service held.

Peter’s legacy will be forever cherished by his family and all those who knew him. His unwavering love and commitment to family, coupled with his simple pleasures in life, will always be remembered. May he rest in peace.
