Peter MILLER
Peter Carl Thompson Miller, born on June 27, 1950 in Moncton, New Brunswick, passed away on August 31, 2023. He had been in and out of the hospital for the past four months, receiving treatment for his hemoglobin levels. On August 30, Peter returned home, but the following day, while sitting in the truck with his wife, he lost consciousness and his heart stopped. Despite efforts from EMS, he could not be revived. While his wife was devastated by the loss, she found solace in the fact that Peter was no longer suffering.
Peter was a devoted son and had a loving relationship with his parents and older brother, Glen. After a childhood spent moving around various airbases in Canada, Peter and his family eventually settled in Vancouver. In 1971, he graduated from BCIT with a diploma in Mapping, Drafting, and Surveying. During his time at BCIT, he formed a lasting friendship with Ernie, and they remained in occasional contact over the years. Peter later relocated to Calgary, where he held senior positions in surveying, land, and engineering companies. This allowed him to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry.
In May 1991, Peter met his beloved wife, Diane, and they quickly fell in love. They were married later that same year and made their home in Glendale. Peter embarked on his own business venture in 1995, providing technical writing services to companies in Western Canada, specializing in areas such as workplace health and safety, regulatory compliance, and engineering specifications. Throughout his career, Peter continued to enhance his education, completing SAIT’s technical writing program with honors and advanced courses from the U of C. He became proficient in software such as Microsoft Office, Visio, Adobe Design Suite, and advanced PDF services, allowing him to excel in document preparation and desktop publishing.
As they neared semi-retirement and faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Peter and Diane discovered new hobbies and interests. They enjoyed gardening, reading, and observing the diverse birdlife that frequented their backyard. They also embraced bridge lessons and regularly watched NFL football and Flames hockey games. Additionally, they found entertainment in shows from Masterpiece Theater, Prime Video, and Netflix.
Peter had a deep passion for collecting models of various vehicles and military equipment. He also found joy in woodworking and carpentry, creating intricate cedar arbours and trellises. Throughout the years, he and Diane cherished meaningful experiences with close friends, attending Stage West dinners, live music tribute concerts, and enjoying the company of loved ones.
Peter’s kind and generous nature, as well as his strong faith in Jesus Christ, endeared him to those around him. He found solace in reading the Bible, particularly the New Testament, and followed the teachings of the Anglican/Catholic faith. Peter is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Diane, as well as his daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and three grandsons: Max, Sam, and Eli. Sadly, his son, Ryan, from a previous marriage, passed away in 2015. Peter also leaves behind his adopted daughter, Krista, and her three children: Parker, Reid, and Sage.
Peter Miller’s funeral service will take place on September 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Eden Brook Funeral Home & Cemetery, followed by a light lunch.
