Philip J Morgan, M.D.

Dr. Philip J Morgan, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at his home in Huntington Beach, California. He was born in Windsor, Ontario and had been residing in Huntington Beach since 1967. Dr. Morgan obtained his B.S.C. degree from the University of Ottawa in 1949 and went on to complete his medical studies at the same university, earning his M.D. degree in 1955. Specializing in Anesthesiology, he practiced for over thirty years in Windsor, Ontario, Detroit, Michigan, and California, with a significant portion of his career spent at Pacifica Hospital in Huntington Beach, where he eventually became the Head of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Morgan’s family mourns his loss. He is predeceased by his brother William, who served as a Flt Sgt. in the RCAF during WWII, as well as his sisters Eileen (William) Delicate and Anna (Ray) Sharkey, and his other brothers Bruno and Jack (Cinci). He is survived by his sister Maryon (Marcus) MacRae, formerly of Lakeland, Florida, his brother Robert of Vancouver, BC, and his brother-in-law Larry Bauer, also of Vancouver. Additionally, he leaves behind nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews from various branches of his family.

Music played a significant role in Dr. Morgan’s life, particularly Classical Dixieland Jazz, and he showcased his talents on the piano and organ. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his motorhome across California, British Columbia, Idaho, Washington State, Oregon, Arizona, and New Mexico. Dr. Morgan had a fondness for bicycling along the bikeway from Sunset Beach to the pier of Huntington Beach while reciting the Memorare for himself and his family. He also hosted an annual party at his home in honor of his nursing and anesthesiology colleagues, traditionally held during the Huntington Beach Christmas Boat Parade.

As a devoted Catholic, Dr. Morgan supported various activities at St Bonaventure parish, as well as different religious orders and Catholic Charities. He deeply cared for his family, particularly his mother in her later years, and was known for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and boundless generosity.

The Mass of Christian burial took place on Saturday, May 20th at St. Bonaventure Church in Huntington Beach, California, presided over by Fr. Joseph Knerr. Dr. Morgan was laid to rest on Friday, May 26th, at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach. Contributions in his memory can be made to the memorial of choice.
