Phillip “Phil” Joseph Albert Gustavsen passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 81. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Phil grew up in the Standard area and found his soulmate in Sharen. They married on February 20, 1965, and embarked on a life filled with love and adventure.

Throughout his career in the oilfield industry, Phil and Sharen lived in various places, including Calgary, Edson, and Drumheller/Dalum areas. They were blessed with three children: Darren, Dereck, and Cari. In 1993, Phil took over the family farm in Chancellor, and after retiring, he and Sharen moved to Strathmore in 2008.

Phil was a man of many passions. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, cutting grass at Oxbow Golf Course and calling bingo at the Strathmore Legion and Ranch Estates. However, his true joy came from playing cribbage. In April 2022, Phil achieved his lifelong dream of winning the Legion Dominion Cribbage Championship.

Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Sharen, their three children, and eight grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Donna, as well as a large extended family and countless friends. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors and nurses at South Health Campus in Calgary for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Phil’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Strathmore Legion Hall. He will be forever remembered and missed by his sister-in-law, Donna, as well as his extensive network of relatives and friends.
