It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis on October 31, 2023, at the age of 95, at the Welland General Hospital. Phyllis was a devoted wife to her late husband, Ernie Collins, for 59 years and a loving mother to her late son, John Collins (Connie). She is survived by her children: Sybil Dunbabin (Ernie), Eric Collins (Laura), Lynda Zajac (Bijou), Ellen Klimo (Martin), Janet Barteski (Ron), Paul Collins (Joyce), Robert Collins (Melissa), and Andrew Collins. Phyllis was a cherished grandmother to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was born on August 1, 1928, in Reading, England to her parents, Fred and Alice Taylor. Throughout her life, she was known for her deep connection to family and friends, embracing a life filled with love and laughter. After leaving England, her family settled in Saskatchewan in 1951, later moving to Kapuskasing, then Sudbury, and finally making a home in Timmins before relocating to Welland.
Renowned for her discerning palate, Phyllis became the resident food critic at her retirement home. She took great pride in having a dish named in her honor at Cedar Meadows. Her love for good food was a reflection of her zest for life. While we mourn the loss of Phyllis, we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared with her. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
In memory of Phyllis, the family kindly requests donations to the Niagara SPCA. Animals were a cause dear to Phyllis’ heart, and supporting their proper treatment would honor her memory. We are grateful for the love and support we have received during this difficult time and extend our gratitude to everyone who has been a part of Phyllis’ life and care.
May Phyllis’ soul rest in peace, and may her memory bring comfort and inspiration to us all. Her presence will always be cherished, remembered, and deeply missed. The cremation will take place on November 4, 2023, by Miron-Wilson Funeral Services.
