Pieter Van Der Griend

Pieter van der Griend, beloved father of Madeleine, Edward, and Peter Jr, and former husband of Sophie, passed away suddenly and tragically, leaving his loving family devastated. Born on February 5, 1965, in Montreal, Pieter attended grade school in the Town of Mount Royal before obtaining a business degree from Mount Allison University and an MBA from Queens University. With a successful 40-year career in the automotive industry, Pieter’s passion for his work was evident to all who knew him.

Pieter’s love for fishing, the outdoors, travel, and his Dutch heritage was deeply ingrained in his character. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to raising his family in Leaside, and his unconditional love for them was a cherished gift. Pieter will be missed not only by his immediate family but also by his mother Renate, late father Edward, sister Annemarie, and her husband Vic Bertrand, as well as his adored nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.

A celebration of Pieter’s life will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, located at 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, on Monday, August 28. Friends are invited to pay their respects between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Diabetes Canada (diabetes.ca) are welcome as a way to honor Pieter’s memory. Condolences can be sent through the funeral home’s website at http://www.humphreymiles.com. The Humphrey Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements, and any inquiries can be made by calling 1 (800) 616-3311.

May Pieter van der Griend’s vibrant spirit and irreplaceable presence continue to resonate among us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
